Brunswick’s Jovan Sage of The Farmer and The Larder named a Les Dames d'Escoffier International Names 2016 Legacy Winner

June 15, 2016 - Six professional women have been chosen as this year's Les Dames d'Escoffier International (LDEI) Legacy Award recipients including Jovan Sage of Brunswick, co-owner of The Farmer and The Larder.

Each of the winners earned a mentoring opportunity delivered by six of the organization's distinguished members, supported by the Julia Child Foundation.

This year's winners are Staci Mickelson, St. Paul, MN; Jovan Sage, Brunswick, GA; Sue Coraggio Snape, Marietta, GA; Stephanie Jane Carter, New Orleans, LA; Sunita de Tourreil, Palo Alto, CA; and Jane Copeland, North Vancouver, BC.

Each will participate in a high-energy, labor-intensive, and career-expanding week customized by hosting Dames.    LDEI is an organization of women leaders in food, beverage and hospitality whose mission is education and philanthropy for the good of the global community.

Established in 2009 and generously supported by The Julia Child Foundation for Gastronomy and the Culinary Arts, LDEI's Legacy Awards competition is open to women who live within the organization's operational scope of the United States, Canada, Mexico, and the United Kingdom and who have a minimum of four years of industry experience.  

This year's opportunities include the chance to helping with harvest and production at one of Canada's best-known makers of fine preserves and wine, learn about the winery and wine tourism industries at Washington state's oldest winery, and experience the art of fine chocolate making at an award-winning chocolatier in London, England. Six awards were presented across four categories: culinary; food/wine journalism; wine; and farm-to-table.

LDEI is an international organization of women leaders who create a supportive culture in their communities to achieve excellence in the food, beverage, and hospitality professions. To do this, over 2,300 members in 36 chapters worldwide provide leadership, educational opportunities and host philanthropic events within their communities. The Julia Child Foundation for Gastronomy and the Culinary Arts was created by Julia in 1995 and became operational in 2004. Headquartered in Santa Barbara, California, the Foundation is a non-profit which makes grants to support research in culinary history, scholarships for professional culinary training, internships in food writing as well as professional development and food literacy programs. Over the last decade, the Foundation has made more than $1.25 million in grants to other non-profits.
