April 21, 2017 - Through the Biogas Technical Assistance Program (BTAP), the Georgia Environmental Finance Authority (GEFA) has awarded $75,000 in grant funds to three organizations for biogas feasibility studies at wastewater treatment plants.
Several organizations have been approved for site-specific biogas utilization feasibility studies, including the Brunswick-Glynn County Joint Water and Sewer Commission at the Brunswick Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Also receiving an award was the City of Gainesville, Department of Water Resources, Flat Creek Water Reclamation Facility, and DeKalb County, Department of Watershed Management, Pole Bridge Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant.
BTAP helps local governments and authorities that own and operate landfills or wastewater treatment plants to realize its landfill gas or biogas potential.
The feasibility study will help organizations better understand available technical solutions to achieve the highest and best use of biogas resources. GEFA hosted a one-day workshop in October 2016 to educate organizations about this program.
Each recipient awarded funding will be reimbursed 75 percent of the cost of the feasibility study, up to a maximum grant amount of $25,000.
The Georgia Environmental Finance Authority (GEFA), headquartered in Atlanta, Ga., is the lead agency for state energy programs; directs the Georgia Land Conservation Program; maintains state-owned fuel storage tanks; and offers financing for reservoir and water supply, water quality, stormwater, and solid waste infrastructure.
Since 1985, GEFA has approved financial commitments totaling more than $3.7 billion to local governments, businesses and nonprofit organizations.
