March 6 - GAGOP mourns the loss of Rep. Burke Day

Beth Eastham, BBJ Editor

March 6, 2017 - On Sunday, former State Representative Burke Day passed away at his home in Tybee Island, GA.  To honor his life and celebrate his legacy of service, the Georgia Republican Party issued the following statement:

"Today, Georgia Republicans mourn the loss of former State Representative Burke Day," said Georgia Republican Party Chairman John Padgett.  "During his sixteen years in the Georgia General Assembly, Rep. Day worked diligently to represent his constituents and the best interests of our state.  He was an effective lawmaker, principled Republican, and trusted community advocate.  Burke Day will be sorely missed.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with Rep. Day's family.  May God grant peace and comfort as they mourn his passing."

Day, a longtime Republican lawmaker, was perhaps best known for the Stephens-Day legislation, which was co-authored with fellow state Rep. Ron Stephens, R-Savannah.

Day retired to his Tybee Island home in 2010, after 16 years of service in the Georgia House of Representatives. He also served on the Tybee Island City Council from 1991-1994.

Funeral services had not been finalized Sunday evening. Day’s cause of death was not released.
