Oct. 5 - Businesses Opposed to RFRA Throw Support Behind Abrams

Brunswick Business Journal Staff Report

October 5, 2018 - "Business Leaders for Abrams" is the campaign’s newest group to support the Democratic nominee for Governor with her promise to oppose the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA) and expand Medicaid.

“Stacey Abrams is the only candidate who understands what must be done to build a diverse economy in our state – and the only candidate opposed to RFRA,” said Andrew Feiler, President, Metro Developers, Inc. “I know from experience – if RFRA passes, our state will lose business. This is not an idle threat, and Georgia cannot afford the risk of having Brian Kemp as Governor. We can trust Stacey Abrams to protect the economic growth we have seen with the film industry.”

Under Abrams’ “Jobs for Georgia” plan, she said she would expand access to capital for small businesses through a $10 million investment in financing programs and would create 22,000 active apprenticeships by 2022.

“I will foster an environment to make our state a great place to live and to work. Unlike my opponent, I commit to never signing discriminatory legislation that harms our employees and causes businesses to leave our state,” said Abrams. “And as governor, I will continue to foster growth in every sector via small business financing, infrastructure development, and expanding access to health care.”

Business leaders from the restaurant industry, financial services sector, the film industry, and small businesses around the state signed an open letter supporting Abrams. "Stacey Abrams' economic mobility proposal and her quality child care platform are powerful solutions that will help put more Georgia families on the path to success," said Tisha Tallman of Tallman Law, LLC and the former President and CEO, Georgia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. "When workers have the skills and support to thrive, everyone reaps the benefits. Together, these comprehensive plans will help move families ahead and foster economic growth throughout the state."
