Dec. 6 - Coastal Georgia YMCA Celebrates Year’s Accomplishments

December 6, 2018 - Coastal Georgia YMCA is celebrating its small successes and momentum garnered this year. Here is a look at some of its accomplishments in 2018:
  • In its second full year of operation, the Fresh Express monthly produce distribution program provided 6,989 pounds of fresh food to nearly 1,200 people this year.
  • On July 18, 2018, it hosted the first annual Association-wide Celebrate Reading Day! its summer day camps and child learning centers welcomed 52 volunteer readers to its classrooms. Volunteers logged 16 hits of reading to an estimated 3,000 Y kids at this event.
  • The new quarter-mile Mason Trail & Outdoor Education Center opened this October and has been a huge hit with the Habersham YMCA community. 
  • Down in the Golden Isles, the Y has partnered with the Boys & Girls Club to provide life-saving training through its Safety Around Water program. This free program is helping to ensure that all children are safe in its coastal communities.
  • With a rise in families opting to Homeschool for education, the Y has responded by launching a Homeschool PE program! Beginning at the West Chatham YMCA, this twice a week program has expanded to other Y branches.
  • The Y celebrated one year of service in the Statesboro community this October! Its newest branch has made great strides in reaching and connecting with its newest members including launching its first summer day camp and micro sports programs in 2018.
Coastal Georgia YMCA has over 1,700 donors that have made a gift to its annual campaign; directly supporting the programs and services. The YMCA is offering up to a $50 discount by joining in December by paying no joiner's fees.
