Oct. 5 - St. Simons Island Food + Spirits Festival affected by Hurricane Matthew

Category: Hospitality & Tourism

Brunswick Business Journal Staff Report

October 5, 2016 - Due to the forecast of heavy rain, wind and the potential for dangerous conditions from hurricane Matthew, the St. Simons Island Food + Spirits Festival is postponing the majority of the festival events for safety reasons.

The Southern Soul Barbecue, Bourbon & Beer event scheduled on Weds., Oct. 5 will still be happening as scheduled. However, Thursday, Oct. 6, 2016 through Sunday, Oct. 9, 2016 festival events have been postponed for a future date, yet to be determined.

“While we regret the turn of events, we feel this is the best solution to accommodate our vendors, patrons and volunteers who have worked so hard to make this festival happen. Although it was a difficult decision to make, safety is our first concern. We have the utmost appreciation for our patrons who have purchased tickets to this year’s festival, and as the festival tickets are non-refundable and events are rain or shine; we plan to honor purchased tickets at a future festival event date. Details will be released in the weeks ahead. We hope you’ll join us at our future event which will also support our charity of choice, Hospice of the Golden Isles. We also hope you all stay safe in this impending storm,” said event organizers, in a statement Weds. morning.

Continued updates will be posted on their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/ssifoodandspirits.

The festival is a five-day tribute to the finest in coastal cuisine, wine, beer, spirits and entertainment. The festival takes place in several beautiful, historic venues throughout St. Simons Island in Georgia's Golden Isles. The festival is a non-profit organization that gives back to the community in many ways, but specifically raises funds and awareness for its charity of choice, Hospice of the Golden Isles.
