Brunswick Business Journal Staff Report

February 15, 2016 - The Lodge on Little St. Simons Island announced this week that it has been selected to join Discovery Destinations Hotels & Resorts, a collection of premium hotels and resorts from around the world with the common theme of igniting curiosity and inspiring guests to explore the world around them.

“It is an honor that The Lodge on Little St. Simons Island has been chosen as a Discovery Destination,” said Scott Greene, General Manager of The Lodge on Little St. Simons Island. “Our selection is a reflection of our unique offerings and tremendous staff who provide guests with an extraordinary experience – one that makes Little St. Simons Island a remarkable vacation and meeting destination.”

Accessible only by boat, Little St. Simons Island is a privately owned barrier island on the Georgia coast. Accommodations on the 10,000-acre Island are in the Lodge’s six charming guest cottages, which together offer room for just 32 overnight guests. The all-inclusive resort offers unique, expert-led nature excursions and abundant outdoor recreation, set against a wilderness backdrop that has remained nearly unchanged for more than a century.

“Little St. Simons Island, like all Discovery Destinations, was handpicked to join the brand because it offers a beautiful location, first-class accommodations and amenities, and a broad array of activities which deliver guests an extraordinary, one-of-a-kind experience,” said Andy MacLellan of Discovery Destinations Hotels & Resorts. “This property also fully embodies Discovery’s core ‘DNA’ elements of nature, science, adventure and animals.”

The Lodge on Little St. Simons Island joins a growing list of Discovery Destinations properties in the United States, Latin America and Asia, including Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill in Kentucky, Nantahala Outdoor Center in North Carolina, House on Metolius in Oregon, Goldmoor Inn in Illinois and Terra Paradise in Costa Rica. Discovery Destinations is a partnership between Discovery Consumer Products, the licensing arm of Discovery Communications, and Scottford Hospitality, an Atlanta-based, multiple-service hospitality firm. Prized for its pristine natural beauty, gracious hospitality and secluded worlds-away appeal, Little St. Simons Island is a privately owned barrier island just off the Georgia coast, and one the state’s famed Golden Isles. The Island offers seven miles of beaches and more than 10,000 acres of undeveloped wilderness for exploration and relaxation. Amenities at the resort include six cottages accommodating up to 32 overnight guests, garden-to-table cuisine, naturalist-led excursions and numerous other outdoor activities. Accessible only by boat, this natural sanctuary – among the last of its kind – is an ideal destination for individuals, groups, families, retreats and business meetings.
