December 20, 2018 – Southeast Georgia Health System welcomes board-certified family medicine physician Lauren Goss Whitley, M.D., to Glynn Family Medicine Center and the Brunswick Campus medical staff. Whitley earned her medical degree at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine, Memphis, Tennessee, and she completed her residency at Self Regional Healthcare, Greenwood, South Carolina.

“After I got married, I saw the need for a primary care physician who could care for the family unit. As a woman, wife and now a mom, I find the prospect of caring for the entire family in terms of medicine very attractive,” said Whitley. “Treating people of all ages, from children to grandparents and everyone in between, is a special thing. I get to influence the lives of the entire family.”

One thing that is most important for Whitley is to make a special, personal connection with her patients. “As I get to know them, they trust and get to know me – like family. The way medicine is supposed to be,” she explains. “And because of that connection, I can provide the best possible care.”

In addition to Whitley’s personal connection to her patients, she has a minimalistic mindset to medicine. Everyone is different, but the one health care decision she recommends to most patients is to reduce medications as much as possible.

“My first goal is to make my patients healthier people, and one way to accomplish that, when possible, is to reduce medicines,” Whitley explains. “This will cut down on side effects and multiple medication interactions, and they will ultimately become healthier people. But everyone is different, and sometimes, health is beyond the physical. I’m here to treat the entire person—mind, body and spirit. I care for all their needs, so if they need emotional support, encouragement and advice, I’m here to lend an ear as well as my medical expertise.”

Glynn Family Medicine Center, an affiliate of Southeast Georgia Health System, is located in Brunswick at 3222 A Shrine Road. Whitley’s clinic hours are 8 a.m.-3 p.m., including the lunch hour. She provides care for the entire family, especially sick children, along with sports physical exams and women’s health, including birth control counseling and prescribing, birth control implant procedures and annual screenings.
