August 31, 2018 - Manning Aviation, the Fixed Base Operator serving Brunswick Golden Isles Airport [BQK], broke ground on a new facility this month. The new 4,000 square foot FBO building will offer special features for corporate, private and charter aviation, with another 2,000 square feet of spacious porches and porte-cochere access. M. D. McDonald Construction of Brunswick is the general contractor for the FBO. In addition to offices and a well-appointed lobby and reception area, the building will contain a catering kitchen and conference room. Special amenities for pilots include a shower, separate pilot lounge and flight planning room.
The FBO facility is the first step in a series of planned expansion projects. After its completion by the beginning of 2019, a new 12,100 square foot corporate hangar is next in line, followed by the construction of a new 6,400 square foot maintenance hangar. Two sets of T-hangars with a total of 12 new slots will come next. A new fuel farm with up to a 60,000-gallon jet fuel and a 12,000-gallon AVGAS capacity will be built to supply general aviation and Delta scheduled passenger service flight at BQK.
