August 11, 2016 - The University System of Georgia (USG) today announced that Hank Huckaby, chancellor of USG, will retire from his role effective Dec. 31. Steve Wrigley, executive vice chancellor for administration for USG, will assume the position of interim chancellor effective Jan. 1.

“I am confident this will be a seamless transition, and I know Steve will continue to bring great strengths to USG in his new role,” said Gov. Nathan Deal. “Hank has been a friend and true public servant to the state for many years. He has dutifully served the University System, the Board of Regents and the state as chancellor since 2011. I cannot think of a stronger candidate than Steve to replace Hank and lead our University System.”

Dr. Steve Wrigley currently serves as the executive vice chancellor for administration for USG. He formerly served as senior vice president for external affairs as well as vice president for government relations for the University of Georgia. Wrigley also served as director of the Carl Vinson Institute of Government. Prior to his work in the University System, he worked in state government in Georgia, including five years as chief of staff to former Gov. Zell Miller. Wrigley earned a bachelor’s degree from Georgia State University and a doctoral degree in History from Northwestern University. He and his wife, Lynne, have two children and reside in Atlanta and Oconee County.
