Brunswick Business Journal Staff Report
August 9, 2018 - Disco Learning Media has entered into an agreement with Georgia Public Broadcasting to develop a series of educational augmented reality experiences focused around forestry. Disco will provide instructional design expertise, while Barcelona-based immersive technology partner VISYON will support the AR product development.
"We are thrilled to be working with GPB once again, and on this exciting endeavor," said Juan Garcia, President of Disco. "GPB is one of the nation's leaders in providing high quality, educational content and this project will significantly expand GPB's presence in the digital learning landscape by bringing innovative augmented reality content to more classrooms."
With the new mobile application, students will have the opportunity to gain new knowledge and insight into forestry through highly detailed models of plant and animal cells. The mobile app will also include videos and quizzes to help provide a unique and truly immerse learning experience.
"This project is a great opportunity to let students explore while learning about forestry and its importance to Georgia," said Andrew MacCartney, VP of Education and Digital Media for GPB. "Disco and VISYON's respective talents in instructional storytelling and immersive technology will help GPB expose more students to this important world of forestry through engaging interactives. AR technology is an impressive tool to engage young minds, and we're pleased to be working with both Disco and VISYON on the development and launch of this new app."
Following a successful beta test in July, GPB plans to roll out the full AR application in October 2018.
