CEO PROFILE: Glynn County Airport Commission names Robert Burr as new Executive Director

October 1, 2013 - Robert Burr, A.A.E., will become the Executive Director for the Glynn County Airport Commission starting October 1, 2013. He will manage the day-to-day operations for two airports, both Brunswick Golden Isles (BQK) and McKinnon St. Simons Island Airport (SSI).

After starting his career in airport operations at Nashville International Airport, Burr moved to Tampa International Airport and spent the next 32 years in all aspects of airport management in a variety of operations management positions.

In his most recent position as Director of Operations for almost 11 years in Tampa, he supervised over 200 personnel pertaining to Customer Service, Airport Security, Parking, Ground Transportation, Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting, Terminal Services and Airfield Operations.

He is also an Adjunct Professor at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University – Worldwide, teaching graduate and undergraduate Aviation/Airport related courses.

Burr said that he is thrilled with his new position in Glynn County, citing the excellent potential of the airports and “the warm and welcoming people of the area.”

According to Airport Commission Chairman Bill Brunson,  Burr competed in a pool of 90 candidates and he rose to the top. “His credentials are impeccable. He brings to the team a broad base of experience in dealing with all sorts of people across the spectrum: government, tenants, customers and employees. In his thirty years at Tampa International, he’s been there, done that, and seen it all. He has dealt with a huge organizational structure as well as satellite airports, and he will be a perfect fit in Glynn County.”

Burr holds a bachelor’s degree in airport management and a master’s in aerospace education, both from Middle Tennessee State University. He is an Accredited Airport Executive (A.A.E.) from the American Association of Airport Executives. Burr is a licensed private pilot, and has been active in the airport industry, as well as involved in the communities in which he has resided.
