Brunswick Business Journal Staff Report
August 2, 2018 - A rezoning request to create lagoons and funding for engineering plans for Phase 11 of the Harry Driggers Boulevard Pedestrian Path are a few of the items up for approval by the Glynn County Board of Commissioners regular meeting tonight at 6 pm at the Glynn County Courthouse.
RLF Kingsland Properties is requesting rezoning of an 86-acre area of the Golden Isles Gateway Planned Development on 725 Harry Driggers Blvd to create lagoons as a water feature in a future residential subdivision. The rezoning would allow surface mining which the developer’s report said would be for the operation of a borrow pit for the excavation of sand. The Department of Natural Resources mining permit would allow for eight years of excavation and two years of restoration. The company anticipates an average of 75 truckloads per day, with infrequent periods of high demand of up to 200 trips per day.
Another project on Harry Driggers Blvd is up for funding approval to pay EMC Engineering for the Preliminary Engineering of Phase II of the Harry Driggers Boulevard Pedestrian Path. The proposed $196,900 is to come from SPLOST 5- Sidewalks and Bike Paths budget.
Other transportation items on the agenda include hiring RS&H to help manage Glynn County’s participation with the City of Brunswick and other local transportation interests in the Brunswick Metropolitan Planning Organization, or Brunswick MPO, which is the transportation planning coordination entity serving the area. RS&H would work during FY19 due to planning staff vacancies.  The program is funded by an annual contract with the Georgia Department of Transportation.
